TV and Radio Presenter Jan Leeming

Jan Leeming has presented Pebble Mill at One, The Food Programme, and Woman’s Hour. In March 1980 she became a familiar face nationwide as a BBC newsreader, where her professionalism and calm delivery won her wide recognition. She also hosted the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest.

Jan was twice recognised as Newsreader of the Year and won a Pye Award as Television Personality of the Year. She became known for her composure during challenging on-air moments, including delivering a lengthy newsflash during the Iranian Embassy siege, continuing her broadcast after a studio bulb exploded, and returning to work shortly after surviving an ammonia attack in 1987. Her final BBC news bulletin was broadcast in April of that year.

After leaving the newsroom, she built a successful career in corporate communications, fronting conferences, product launches, and training videos. She also presented series such as The West in Trust, a Jack the Ripper documentary with Peter Ustinov, and lifestyle programmes including ITV’s This Morning. In later years, she appeared on popular shows such as Safari School, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! (where she finished sixth in 2006), Come Dine with Me, and The Real Marigold Hotel, which took her travelling to India, Cuba, and Argentina.
